CSI 5* Inflation Crisis

Elite show jumping is facing an inflation crisis, with riders concerned that the once-prestigious CSI5* events have lost their exclusivity. With more competitions adopting the 5* label, many argue it’s time for a CSI6* tier to restore prestige. Meanwhile, wealthy show organisers are already pushing boundaries — plans for a CSI7* event are reportedly in motion.

“If every show is a 5*, then no one is,” said Spanish rider Maria A. “We need a new benchmark.”

While Europe debates the need for a CSI6*, equestrian leaders have even bigger ambitions.

“Five stars is passé,” said a show organizer. “The world deserves something greater. CSI7* is the future.”

This luxury-driven approach could reshape show jumping and the entire horse show world, but traditionalists worry it might further dilute the sport’s value. Italian rider Luca B. remains skeptical:

“At what point do we start handing out stars like free lollipops? There has to be a line.”

As the sport reaches a crossroads, the battle between tradition and innovation intensifies. Whether the new tiers will elevate show jumping or erode its prestige remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—the star system is no longer just about competition; it’s about redefining the sport’s future.
