Horse Mobility Scooters for Seniors: Hobby Horsing for the Elderly

Updated: Apr 5

In a groundbreaking fusion of equestrian tradition, hobby horsing and cutting-edge mobility solutions, horse mobility scooters for elderly riders are taking social media and the world by storm. With sleek designs, built-in "neigh" sound effects, and an optional carrot basket, these electricity powered wonders allow seniors to glide majestically through town.

“It’s like Hobby Horsing for the youth, but with fewer broken ankles and less athleticism required,” said 72-year-old Doris McAllister, zipping around her local riding club on an “Equine Glide 5000.” “Finally, a horse that won’t spook at plastic bags or require me to sell a kidney for its vet bills!”

The scooters, available in different “breeds” (from the stately Friesian Cruiser to the feisty Mini Pony Zoomer), have taken over social media. Videos of pensioners on horse mobility scooters have racked up millions of views.

“I used to struggle getting on my real horse and falling off the horse in my age is also not a good idea,” said retiree Bob Jenkins, 80, adjusting his faux-leather saddle. “Now I just step on, hit the ‘neigh’ button (the neighs are of course customizable), and cruise around together with my Hobby Horsing Mobility Scooter friends in style.”

The Grand Prix Horse Scooter League

But casual scootering is just the beginning—introducing the Grand Prix Horse Scooter League (GPHSL), a revolutionary new competitive format. "Elite" scooter riders will face off in:

  • High-Speed Dressage – Where competitors must execute perfect dressage tests in high speed without touching the surroundings of the dressage arena.

  • Cross-Town Show Jumping – Featuring strategically placed speed bumps, curbs, and an optional “pothole water jump.”

  • Freestyle Dressage – A highly artistic test set to carefully curated music.

  • Quadrille - four to six scooter riders try to move around in a synchronized way

Freestyle Favorites: Where Elegance Meets Heavy Metal

Freestyle music choices have taken an unexpected turn. Planned routines include:

  • Doris "Scooter Queen" McAllister’s “Highway to Hell” Grand Prix Routine – complete with synchronized horn honking.

  • Bob Jenkins’ “Another Way to Die” Pas de Deux – featuring matching Harley Davidson jackets.

  • Edna Fitzgerald’s “I Will Survive” Dressage Routine – performed entirely in slow motion.

  • Gordon “Scooter King” Mitchell’s “The Imperial March” Dressage– because if Darth Vader had a horse, it would be a scooter.

Every participant enjoyed the first test events. "Oops," chuckles Agnes, 78, while giving her neighbor's Scooter 'Stallion Zoomer' a playful nudge with her Scooter 'Mare Marvel'. "Well, I think Zoomer and Marvel just fell in love!"

Major Sponsors Gallop In

While the GEF (Global Equestrian Federation) is trying to figure out if throwing fake horse poo during the dressage routine is against the rules, major sponsors are already cashing in. Leading brands are launching custom scooter half-pads, full training kits, and a line of aerodynamic tweed jackets designed for maximum scooter speed as well as essential accessories, including scooter-friendly bridles, fake carrots, fake apples, and even strategically placed fake horse poo for authenticity. There are also plans to lease or rent Horse Mobility Scooters for those interested to be a member of one of the Hobby Horsing Mobility Scooter Associations, also partnerships with senior homes are being discussed.
