Speed Dressage: The race for glory

In a groundbreaking announcement, the Global Equestrian Federation (GEF) has introduced Speed Dressage, where the elegance of traditional dressage meets the high-octane thrill of a race. Inspired by the success of show jumping’s time-based format, Speed Dressage eliminates the age-old obsession with style and finesse. Instead, it’s all about one thing: who can complete the test the fastest.

“Why should dressage be about grace when speed gets the crowd cheering?” says Alejandro "Alex" Ferreira (BRA), GEF President. “Style is outdated. We’re modernizing the sport for today’s audience.”

In this high-speed version, riders will blaze through their tests in under five minutes, disregarding traditional standards of “flow” or “elegance.” Judges will now only be concerned with how fast the rider can complete the movements - timing is everything.

While critics claim this undermines the heart of dressage, GEF insists the new format will attract a younger, faster-paced audience. Riders will even be given aerodynamic saddles and frictionless reins to maximize speed.

“We’re reimagining dressage,” says Ferreira. “It’s no longer about grace - it’s about speed.” Expect the first Speed Dressage competition next year, where riders will race against time, and style is optional.
