“Harmony & Freedom”: Equestrian Sports Abolishes All Rules

Lausanne/Falsterbo/Worldwide – In an unprecedented U-turn aimed at saving the mental health of equestrian sports, the Global Equestrian Federation (GEF) has taken the most radical step in sporting history today: the complete and unconditional abolition of all sports regulations.

“We are finally creating a true ‘safe space’ for our athletes,” the federation announced under the slogan #RiderWellbeingBeforeRuleMadness.

Ending “Toxic Control Culture”

The GEF’s analysis reveals what insiders had long suspected: rules, protocols, and steward-specific inspections are highly toxic to riders. The constant pressure to adhere to norms -whether regarding tack, aids, or the handling of the horse - has historically led to massive cases of burnout and an “oppressive atmosphere of permanent surveillance.”

“A rider who has to fear in the arena that the FEI measuring device won't slide under the noseband cannot achieve their full creative potential,” stated a psychological consultant for the GEF. “We have therefore decided to free the sport from all shackles that could limit the rider’s emotional freedom. From now on, the arena is a judgment-free space where only what feels right to the rider at that moment counts.”

The “Rider’s Gut Feeling” Replaces Regulations

With the abolition of rules, the tedious concept of the “violation” also disappears. Since no rules exist, by definition, no one can violate them. The “rule paradox” is thus resolved.

  • No more noseband measurements: The strap now sits exactly as the rider feels most comfortable. Whether the horse can breathe is purely a subjective assessment by the rider.

  • No more doping bans: Doping is now considered a purely “individual performance optimization.” Anyone who makes themselves and their horse feel better by using chemical aids should not be sanctioned, but rather earn respect for their “dedication.”

  • No more judges: Future scoring will be handled via a “Self-Reflection App.” After the ride, the rider enters how much they felt “at peace with themselves.” The higher the number, the higher the win.

A Stress-Free Paradise

Initial reactions from the stable tents are euphoric.

“For the first time in years, I dismounted without fear of an inspection,” enthuses one show jumper. “It’s an incredible feeling of freedom. If I correct a horse with the whip now, I don’t have to worry about someone screaming ‘animal welfare.’ It’s my safe space now. I am the king of my arena.”

The GEF “Animal Welfare” Bonus

Critics who argue that this freedom might come at the expense of the horses are being calmed by the GEF with a new concept: so-called “Metaphysical Harmony.” The theory states that when the rider feels absolutely comfortable in their “safe space,” this well-being is automatically transferred to the horse via quantum entanglement. Therefore, the horse does not even notice if the noseband is too tight or if doping is involved, simply because the rider is so relaxed and happy.

“We have finally brought the sport to where it belongs: into the pure, undisturbed bliss of the rider,” the GEF concluded. “Anyone who wants to exercise control now is actively bullying the mental health of our athletes.”
