STOP THE GRASS-SLAUGHTER: Is Your Hay Stained with Blood?

BY OUR ROVING REPORTER FOR VEGETATIVE RIGHTS

While we bicker over horse welfare in equestrian sports, a silent massacre is unfolding in our meadows. Experts are sounding the alarm for plant wellbeing: traditional mowing is nothing less than a lethal act against flora. It is murder.

The Bloody Reality of the Hay Harvest

“When the mower arrives, the grasses have no chance to flee,” sobs Silke Sage, founder of the initiative 'Plants Don’t Pant' (PDP). “We are talking about millions of individuals – from the proud Timothy grass to the shy dandelion – being butchered in their prime, just so a horse has something to chew on.”

The Alternative: “Voluntary Fall-Grass”

The Carrot Post visited the first farm to switch to “Non-Violent Feeding.” There is no mowing here.

  • The Method: The boarders wait patiently in the paddock until individual grass die of natural causes and sink brown to the ground. Only this so-called “Fall-Grass” is picked up, one by one, with tweezers.

  • The Price: A single bale of “Ethical Hay” costs a staggering €1,200, as the harvest helpers (horse barn interns who pay to help at the equestrian stable) offer end-of-life counseling to each stalk before picking it up.

  • The Feedback: “My horse has lost 440 pounds,” one owner reports proudly, “but his karma level has never been higher. He just looks at the meadow with pure reverence now, instead of greedily ripping it out.”

Revolution at the Feeding Trough: 3D-Printed Hay

For those who refuse to support the “Meadow Murder” any longer, there is now “Concept-Fiber.”

These are synthetic stalks made from recycled yoga mats, sprayed with the scent of “freshly mown grass” (synthetic, with zero real plant suffering!).

“It tastes like nothing and has the nutritional value of a plastic bag,” admits Dr. Dr. h.c. Stallion-Steed, “but it is morally impeccable. We call it ‘Zero-Guilt-Roughage’.”

Do you feel like your horse is depressed because it’s biting on corpses? I communicate with your roughage and clarify whether the hay is spiritually ready to be eaten.

Session (45 min via Zoom): €150. Talking to the horse: 500 Euro additional
